But the spirit of unity quickly dissolved as NDP MP Pat Martin urged his Liberal counterparts not to "sit on their hands" when the wheat board issue comes up for a vote in the Commons. Liberal MP Raymond Simard, who was sitting just a few feet away, called Martin's comments a political cheap shot. Simard could not say whether the Liberals would abstain from a vote on the wheat board if it is deemed a confidence motion that could result in an election. On Wednesday, New Democrat finance critic Thomas Mulcair said Liberal Leader Stephane Dion has shown "incredible weakness" by indicating his party might abstain from a vote on the federal budget. .
Budget or splurge?
Is your wallet more blue than flush with green these days? It seems many of us don't feel so affluent anymore. Whether it's from credit card debt, an escalating mortgage, or a long-overdue raise, finding finances are tight. And one of the first things to get axed from the budget is often a vacation.
A spate of time away from home provides us perspective, rest, renewal and family (or spousal) bonding -- essential tools in the game of life. But with the dollar shrinking in value against many world currencies, the cost of a foreign vacation has increased dramatically.
One solution: the Caribbean and related Atlantic getaways. Although we're headed toward the region's high season (mid-December through mid-April), most islands have maintained value against the U.S.

The Otis and I are celebrating our 7th anniversary (and my 28th birthday) with our 2nd annual Karaoke Idol competition. Last year's was a blast. And I was truly honored that I wasn't one of the Bottom Three. (Though I thought I was deserving). My song is "Fancy." I've Athol-fied the lyrics, which should help me get in the judges good graces. Because I can tell you right now that my vocal stylings definitely won't help me win that shiny 1st place trophy. (Yes, folks, we are doing trophies this year). And I'm thinking of dressing the part. Maybe some Wranglers and a Stetson? -- Mommy Dearest/BrodH20. Mommy Dearest's Quandry: We have an awesome panel of judges: The Paula-licious Leenda the Ball, Megs Cowell and newbie Orange TV. Based on last year's judging, I haven't decided whether it's better to perform early when the judges are still stone-cold sober, or if it's better to wait until they've got that warm and fuzzy feeling in their veins.
